Technology Roundtable - Artificial Intelligence and the EU: A global leader or a missed opportunity?

by
Crispin Maenpaa

In 2016, two thirds of all investments into Artificial Intelligence (AI) were made in the U.S. Meanwhile, China is rapidly developing AI products due to the vast amounts of data created by the 1.4 billion mobile phone subscriptions and 800 million internet users, figures greater than the US and EU combined.

With the race for global AI leadership well and truly underway, the European Commission will deliver their EU Strategic Plan for AI on 25 April 2018. Initial discussions suggest that significant attention will be given to funding AI initiatives, addressing legal and ethical issues, and tackling socio-economic challenges for the labour market. The new strategy will be of key importance in advancing the uptake of AI in Europe. FleishmanHillard believes this has broad ramifications for digitisation, access to data, liability, and algorithms, and will thus be of key importance for businesses involved in the digital economy (tech, energy, transport, health, banking, financial).

Join the FleishmanHillard Technology team and our guest speaker from the European Commission to discuss the new AI strategy and its potential impact across sectors.
