Data Protection Regulation: Issues and Outlook
Fleishman-Hillard Brussels hosts a roundtable luncheon on the ‘Data Protection Regulation – Issues and Outlook under the Cypriot Presidency’ in Brussels on Monday 2 July, 2012.
On the first working day of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Fleishman-Hillard welcomes Giorgos Rossides for a roundtable discussion on the data protection regulation. Mr. Rossides is a special advisor on data protection issues at the Cypriot Presidency. Before joining the Permanent Representation he was a member of the drafting team at the European Commission’s DG Justice.
The data protection regulation proposal has sparked debate from actors from the technology sector to publishing, healthcare and financial services. With heated discussions expected in the coming months, Mr. Rossides will open the luncheon with a tour d’horizon of the key issues on the dossier followed by a discussion between participants. The debate is likely to touch upon issues of consent, the use of sensitive data, the right to be forgotten, extraterritorial effects as well as linkages with other policy areas and legislation.
The luncheon takes place under Chatham House Rules. Participation is free of charge and a sandwich lunch will be provided.
There are a limited number of places for this event to encourage active discussion. Registration is on a first come first served basis.
