State of the Energy Union: FH Outcome and Analysis
On 18 November, the European Commission came forward with its first ‘State of the Energy Union’ (SOTEU) report. The report gives an assessment of where Europe is in terms of achieving the objectives laid out in the Energy Union Strategy of February 2015 and outlines the legislative proposals for 2016.
In this analysis, the FH Energy team gives its assessment of how the EU is performing in each of the Energy Union’s five dimensions. Adopting a forward looking perspective, we outline the key challenges the EU faces in each of the five dimensions. Throughout the analysis, particular attention is given to the issue of Energy Governance and how the Energy Union will be governed in order to ensure that the EU renewable and energy efficiency targets agreed as part of the 2030 Climate & Energy Framework are achieved.
In our Energy Union timeline we outline all the legislative proposals that can be expected in the next 12 months, in what has been referred to as “the year of implementation”.
