FleishmanHillard Brussels hosted a British Chamber of Commerce Brussels New Generation (BNG) “Lunch and Learn” session on how to best pitch journalists. Speaker, Viktoria Dendrinou from the Wall Street Journal, explained to an audience of around 50 young professionals the dos and don’ts of approaching journalists working in general media on EU policy issues.
Pulling from her own experience, she outlined the fundamentals of effectively communicating on clients’ or companies’ ideas, products or press releases, and humorously elucidated possible false steps. During the lively discussion after the presentation, Viktoria answered questions from the audience such as ‘how can I make a technical issue attractive to a general audience?’ or ‘what’s the best follow-up strategy?’, and again underlined the recipe for success: be prepared, have a clear and honest message, and treat journalists (like everyone else) with respect.
The British Chamber’s Brussels New Generation (BNG), of which FH has been an active member for years, organises initiatives that aim to help young professionals (aged under 35) in Brussels network and build on their skills.
